The Mission
I was commissioned to design a classic 8-bit racing game, which would become playable on a giant arcade installation.
The Process
Every detail was storyboarded at the conceptual stage, ensuring the game will be cohesive from top to bottom.
Game graphics were drawn pixel-by-pixel, compiled onto a sprite sheet, and animated with codes by a developer.
The game’s graphics borrowed elements from Kia’s TV-spot campaign and featured the latest edition of the Kia Forte.
The creation of the game took about a month before it needed to be glitch-free for the in-person gamers.
The Result
The project was showcased at Toronto's annual event LuminaTO and was playable on a gigantic arcade machine…
... as well as regular-sized arcade machines, all connected via wifi to compete for the hi-score.
More than 6000 games were played over the duration of 6 days at the Luminato Festival.
